The Uttar Pradesh government today announced a most awaited scheme that will benefit the state’s students. UP CM Yogi Adityanath and his cabinet had promised this scheme in the state earlier. Now, they have confirmed the same during their meet. According to the UP free laptop yojana official website, free laptops will be given to 20 lakh students in classes 10th and 12th. Those who complete the form with the required details will get laptops absolutely free of cost.
Intending to direct students to the growing digitized university system for exchanging knowledge, providing quality education and improving R & D university facilities, the state government has fixed a budget of Rs 1800 crore under this scheme. According to initial reports, the state government hopes to equip the 20 lakh deserving students in UP with laptops.

Students studying in UP Colleges and Universities who have an 80% percentage in the 12th Examination and expect more than 80% results in the UG Exam can apply for the UP Free Laptop Yojana.
The final selection of students will depend on the merit list as per their performance in the entrance exam of colleges. Students having an annual income of less than Rs. 2,00,000 are also eligible to apply for the UP Scheme. Along with this, this scheme also aims at increasing the access to knowledge and skills of individuals, making way for development in rural areas. However, the purposed benefit given under UP Free Laptop Scheme is only up to 10-15% of the total student population in elite institutions.

providing their Aadhaar card details, place of birth certificate, passport size photo, class

The UP government has now entrusted the responsibility for the selection process of the free laptop scheme to the District Magistrate. The District Magistrate will form a six- member team to decide how laptops/tablets are distributed. The Gem portal, the nodal agency, will purchase laptops/ tablets. Not everyone will get a laptop, but only those who pass a test on their merit and eligibility.
